Learn how to choose the right Alcantara door pull strap kit for your Subaru and install it in minutes. Fitment tips and step-by-step instructions included.

Quick answer

Choose a Billetworkz Alcantara door pull strap kit that matches your Subaru's year and model, then install it in about 15 minutes using basic hand tools and the included hardware.

Why fitment matters more than you think

Door pull straps are not one-size-fits-all. The mounting points and handle shapes differ between Subaru generations, so using the wrong kit can leave gaps or require extra drilling. Billetworkz offers two kits: one for 2008-2021 WRX/STI, BRZ (2013-2021), and Crosstrek (2013-2017), and another for 2022+ WRX/BRZ/GR86/Ascent and 2018+ Crosstrek. Always verify your vehicle's year and model before ordering.

The newer kit also fits the GR86, which shares its interior with the BRZ. If you drive a 2022+ BRZ or GR86, the newer kit is the correct choice. For older models, the first kit is the one you need.

What to expect during installation

The installation is straightforward and requires no special skills. You'll remove the factory door handle or grab handle, attach the strap using the provided hardware, and tighten everything back down. The entire process takes about 15 minutes per door, and you won't need to remove the door panel.

One thing to note: the strap replaces the factory handle, so you'll lose the traditional grab handle. If you often use the handle to close the door, the strap works just as well but feels different. It's a trade-off worth considering if you're after a race-inspired look.

Step-by-step installation

  1. Gather tools and hardware: You'll need a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool, a Torx or Phillips screwdriver (depending on your model), and the hardware included in the kit. Lay everything out so you can see what goes where. Check that all hardware is present before starting; missing screws will halt the install.
  2. Remove the factory door handle: Locate the screws or clips holding the factory handle in place. Use the trim tool to gently pry off any covers, then remove the screws. Pull the handle straight out to detach it from the door panel. Don't yank the handle; it may be clipped in. Work slowly to avoid breaking the clips.
  3. Attach the Alcantara strap: Position the strap over the mounting holes and align the holes with the factory points. Insert the provided bolts or screws and tighten them snugly. Avoid over-tightening, as the Alcantara can compress. Ensure the strap is oriented correctly (the logo or stitching should face the cabin) before tightening.
  4. Test the strap and reinstall covers: Give the strap a firm pull to confirm it's secure. Reinstall any covers or trim pieces you removed. Close and open the door a few times to make sure the strap doesn't interfere with the door seal. If the strap rubs against the door seal, loosen the bolts and adjust the strap's position slightly.
